Surf City, the official ISA venue for the second year in a row

Results and highlights from Surf City El Salvador ISA World Junior Surfing Championship

Surf City El Salvador was this year’s official host of the ISA World Junior Surfing Championship. Having just completed this world-class event, we take a look back at the results and highlights of the event, and we’re still taking it all in!

On May 27th in Surf City El Salvador, the 2022 ISA World Junior Surfing Championship opened with an inaugural event to welcome the young surfers and their delegations.

During 9 days, from 28 May to 5 June, the beaches of La Bocana and El Sunzal in La Libertad were the main stage for this competition that brought together the best emerging surfing talents in the world with the same objective: to surf and do their best to win the title of the best junior surfer in the world.

This year we broke the participation record with 423 junior surfers representing 45 delegations from all over the world.

The results

An incredible 9 days of non-stop action in Surf City El Salvador culminated with Hawaii securing a huge lead to win their first team gold since 2014.

We review and congratulate the winners of the ISA World Junior Surfing Championship 2022 in the 4 categories of the event.

The highlights

In addition to the winners of the tournament, we would like to mention some highlights that happened during the days of the competition.

For the Opening Event, the ISA’s iconic «Sands of the World» ceremony took place, with one member of each team pouring sand from their beach into a container to symbolise the peaceful union of the different countries of the world through surfing.

The ISA World Junior Surfing Championship took place after two years of not being able to hold the ISA, so the participation of surfers compared to Huntington Beach in 2019 was very significant.

Team Hawaii, the 2019 silver medallists, found their way back to gold thanks to an impressive team, winning four individual medals. Australia followed with Silver, USA won Bronze and France picked up Copper.

Organisational success

For Surf City El Salvador it has been a pleasure to be the main stage for this world-class event where we have welcomed the best emerging surfing talent and we are proud that our fantastic waves have been the protagonists of the ISA World Junior Surfing Championship 2022.

In addition, we are very happy with the success of the tournament thanks to the impeccable organisation of the International Surfing Association (ISA) together with the government of El Salvador.

Events like this bring great national pride and prestige to the country and reflect our interest and commitment to establish ourselves as a leading surfing destination and enhance the development of this great sport.

That’s why at Surf City we keep working and we have already experienced another world-class event: the WSL Surf City El Salvador Pro 2022.
