Known as the «Little Thumb of America» for its small size, El Salvador is a republic established in Central America. But the jewel of this marvellous country is, without a doubt, the great Pacific Coast, full of beaches and corners of effusive marine energy that make El Salvador a dream destination for all surfers who enjoy paradisiacal waves. The fame of surfing in the Salvadoran territory has experienced an exponential growth when the virgin beaches of the country have been discovered, which stand out for their innumerable amount of waves that pump during the 365 days of the year, at an average temperature of 30 degrees Celsius and with a worldwide length, breaking 100-200 meters or more without closing, receiving a special notoriety the power of the right waves, the most characteristic ones that define the country’s wave fame. A jewel of nature that can become a dream for many surfers.
To encourage the knowledge of the area and for placing El Salvador as a «must go» destination on the map to all surfers in the world, the «Surf City» project has been born, an ambitious initiative that motivates us to show the world that our home was born for surfing, and we are determined to show you everything that our country has to offer you.
SURF CITY, WORLD CUP LOCATION
Following our words, we turn to the facts. Leading with the announcement of El Salvador’s selection as host of the 2021 ISA World Surfing Games by the International Surfing Association (ISA):
«The International Surfing Association (ISA) today announced that the Surf City El Salvador ISA World Surfing Games 2021 will take place from 29 May to 6 June at two world-class waves in El Salvador: La Bocana and El Sunzal.»
This championship will undoubtedly mark a before and after for Surf City El Salvador, providing great reputation and international awareness for the country. And not only for the country, but it will also mark a historic moment for surfing, a major milestone on the road to surfing’s Olympic debut, in the words of Fernando Aguerre, President of the ISA.
The French and Spanish Surfing Federations and many of the world’s most famous surfers such as Leon Glatzer, Leilani McGonagle, Dean Vanderwalle, Bryan Perez, Tiago Carrique or Aritz Aranburu, among other participants of the ISA World Surfing Games, have already visited Surf City to test the waves and do their training, as we are less than a month away from the big competition.
